Every great romantic movie has it.
It’s the moment when you realize this person is the one you need to be with and you cannot wait until they’re done doing whatever they’re doing-you need to tell them how you feel and you need to do it now.
You mustn’t wait another second!
Men-and yes, 90% of the time, it’s a man doing this- will race across town, their wheels careening around corners and honking at pedestrians. They will fly across the country (or the world), they will *cheesily* play a boombox outside your window, any way they think is appropriate to profess their love. And usually it’s something they know will mean something to you, so you (and your heart) don’t stand a chance in saying “No.”
If a woman did any those things, she’d be committed. Usually. Just saying.
Anyways, here’s a few of my favorites:
Handsome and wealthy businessman chases down prostitute with flowers waving.
Hot dancer choreographs dances because nobody puts Baby in the corner.
Sitting outside your fiancee’s door for a week solid, rain or shine, because you made the biggest mistake a man can make in a relationship… (I actually, seriously, LOVE this movie.)
Flying from NYC to Paris to bring home the woman you love, even though she went there with another man. After all, it’s Big love, man.

Now, to be fair, there are women who do these things…
Sometimes, if you own 27 dresses, it works out:
And, sometimes it doesn’t…
(Especially if your name starts with ‘R’…)
Or if you’re in love with your best friend, who happens to be marrying Cameron Diaz.
Now, I’ve never actually experienced a “Big Gesture” in my life. Although, I do girlishly and naively hope that one day someone will love me enough to break my heart and then have enough balls nerve to make one of these gestures.
Or I guess I could just hope to fall in love with someone who won’t break my heart.
But what kind of movie would that be?

Raya, I absolutely love this post!
Feels like it was just yesterday.
I’m a hopeless romantic and love movies like these. One of my favorite big romantic gestures is in the movie “The Sweetest Thing,” where Cameron Diaz and Christina Applegate go on a road trip to a wedding so Cameron’s character can find a man there that she met the night before at a club. It doesn’t go so well, it turns out that the wedding is his, but it’s pretty hilarious. When I was younger, there were a couple road trips that turned out to have big gestures involved, which failed miserably (my fault). But at least I tried!
Side note – the soundtrack for “The Last Kiss” is one of my favorites. But has it really been 5 years since the movie came out?
Aww, you totally leave the best comments! And I absolutely know that movie-I’ve seen it tons of times! I’ve done some ridic stuff for love but now no more. Tired of doing the chasing, haha. I’m a girl-that’s not my job!
What a fun and different post from you. THis truly made me smile
Thank you Kiran!
LOVE LOVE LOVE this post! You rocked it! AND by the way let’s go with the second one…. Meeting the guy that would NEVER break your heart because he sees how totally awesome and perfect you are for him, that he’d never risk losing you… Maybe it wouldn’t be a great movie, but it would be a great love!
Love you!!!
Awwwhhh!! You’re right-maybe someday, eh? I love and miss you too!!!!!!
